Did You Know New NFPA 70E Safety Standards Make Your Plant Safer?

Did you know that shock, electrocution, arc flash, and arc blast cause approximately one fatality every day in the United States – and that’s on the job, not at home.

And, that’s not including the 8,000 or so workers treated in emergency rooms for electrical contact injuries each year.

NFPA made major changes in 2009 that recognize new hazards and cover safety gaps important for workers who deal with electricity and if you are reading this blog that would probably include YOU.  Keep you and your employees safe and on the job.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) protects personnel and can reduce the risk of injury.  Included in PPE is the use of the correct electrical test/measurement  equipment which can prevent accidents.

Make sure you are using the the right test equipment, that your test equipment is repaired properly, and that it meets current standards.

Improved work practices reduce risk.  These improvements range from no longer allowing cotton outerwear for energy levels below 2 cal/cm2 to reduce second-degree thermal burns to new record keeping requirements for training and safety programs.

For more information about the new NFPA 70E safety standards see the www.nfpa.org website or check with your professional organization.
